Description is exactly The brass compound microscope was created by Bausch and Lomb Optical Co, with the stamp located at the stage rather than the base (which is the usual practice.) The monocular microscope is an early version of the Model BB and the serial number identifies that it was made in 1891. The horseshoe base is made from dense brass which helps stabilize the microscope when it is at full inclination. The circular arm is made up of two sections, which are connected by a hinge that allows the microscope to incline at an angle. The body-tube is monocular and connects to a rotating, double nose-piece which allows two objects to screw in. The microscope has both coarse focus, functions with diagonal rack and pinion, as well as fine focus, which is adjusted by a small screw at the top of the microscope arm. The large, square stage has two stage clips to hold the specimen in place. The wooden "coffin style" case has the serial number 9860 stamped on the box; however, this serial number is not stamped on the microscope. The lock is attached but is not functional.
