"I remembered too that there were other people in the community that showed up in different ways. So like, I remember in particular different yoga studios and meditation facilities, too, were offering free classes, free sessions to support the community immediately after it happened. You know students, faulty staff, anybody. They were open to anybody for free. So you know again, seeing the community show their support not just visibly showing their support but then offering all these services to people who were affected in any way, was just really beautiful."

"There was a big campaign that was very successful to bring us all together as Niners: We are All Niners, Niner Strong, Charlotte Strong. There was a lot more, what I would say, school spirit being shown, both on campus and in the Charlotte community, as well. There was a lot of school spirit being shown, more so than before. I think that's been a change."
-
"The shooting resulted in such an outpouring of support from the Charlotte community. So many of the people that we heard from were just people in the community who were just reaching out. So many people reached out to us through the Chancellor's Office account. You know, just sending prayers and sending support, expressing pride, which is a weird thing, but on how well it was handled. So very complimentary and...proud of the way first responders handled it. So we felt in some ways that this was the first time that the community made UNC Charlotte the community's university. And so, I think that there was a connectedness that's sprung forth from this tragedy."
-
"I knew how much the campus meant to me--but seeing how much it meant to everyone else, and the way the university responded, and the way the community came together, the collectiveness of the community, and the way that the city really put their arms around us, and I've just--I've never been more proud to be a Niner, and I've never been more proud to be a Charlottean."
-
"For the student body as a whole, too, moving forward, it was unbelievable for the amount of support that we had to come together from students, from alumni, faculty [and] the community as well. And seeing that amount of support was just absolutely amazing, I will say. From the city embracing us as an institution to other areas reaching out to us and showing support."
-
"Not that anybody is accepting that this is commonplace today in America. I don't feel that. What I think is that people are very resilient in America, and Americans have been through a lot, continue to go through a lot. And among many Americans in their core is resilience. It's kind of a mechanism built into lots of people, and they march on."
-
"I look at it like, now I have such a deep connection to the university that I didn't have before. Before I just looked at myself like I'm just a commuter, I'm not actually entwined with the campus at all. Now that's far from the truth. I feel like I am a 49er. I feel like I bleed the colors green, gold, black, white...I believe that it's kinda drawn us together, closer. The students, it's a lot more camaraderie between us. It's a lot more pride."
