Cartoon of a female doctor in Punch (1870)

<p>This cartoon was published in <em>Punch</em> (1870). The image shows a group of men inquiring about becoming nurses in response to the acceptance of women into medical schools. Universities were reluctantly letting women practice medicine in the late nineteenth century, and female doctors had to deal with rampant sexism.</p>
