Anniversary
Weeks before the first anniversary of the April 30 tragedy UNC Charlotte, along with the rest of the nation, was shut down with stay at home orders put in place to limit the spread of COVID-19. Working remotely from across North Carolina, student leaders, staff, and faculty reimagined how to safely honor and remember Reed, Riley, and those who were injured one year earlier. United: A Remembrance Program was live streamed on April 30, 2020. It featured remarks by Chancellor Dubois, Student Body President Chandler Crean and Student Body Vice President Adela Mann, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Kevin Bailey, and a special appearance from CBS News correspondent and alum, Don Dahler ’91. In addition, it presented an artistic video created by faculty member Jeff Murphy and accompanied by an original composition written by faculty member John Allemeier, as well as musical performances by “Water From Fire” featuring alumni John Woodall ’14 and Kevin Brawley ’13.
